L'église

Située dans le secteur nord de la ville de Montréal, la paroisse Notre-Dame-de-la-Consoltata, destinée à la communauté italienne, a été érigée le 20 juin 1953.

L'édifice, conçu par l'architecte Patsy Colangelo (1907-1984), et a été construit par la firme Pisapia Construction au cours des années 1960-1961.

L'orgue

L'orgue construit, en 1964-1965, par la firme Pontificia Fabbrica d'organi Tamburini, de Crema (Italie) a été installé en 1966.

À l'intérieur du buffet, on retrouve, pour chaque section, des mini-claviers servant à l'accord.

L'harmonie suit strictement la tradition italienne: douceur, chaleur et transparence; chaque jeu est bien défini dans son timbre; le transitoire d'attaque y est présent à un juste degré et sans agressivité; l'ensemble est bien fusionné et d'une sonorité large. Le ripieno du Grand-Orgue suit les schémas des Serassi (XVIIIe siècle) et celui du Positif suit les lignes des Antegnati (XVIe et XVIIe siècles).

Les concerts inauguraux ont eu lieu le 13 novembre 1966 par Massimo Rossi et le 17 novembre 1966 par Frederick Swann.

En 2008, un grand nettoyage ainsi qu'une restauration complète de l'instrument ont été réalisés par la firme Lévesque-Roussin. À cette occasion, l'harmonie à été complètement révisée et ré-égalisée par Jacques L'Italien avec un souci de conserver les caractéristiques propres de l'orgue italien.

The Church

Located, in the north section of the city of Montreal, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Consoltata parish, for the use by the Italian community, was established on June 20th, 1953.

The church, designed by architect Patsy Colangelo (1907-1984), was built by the Pisapia Construction Company in 1960 and 1961.

The Organ

The organ, built in 1964-1965 by the Pontificia Fabbrica d'organi Tamburini, from Crema (Italy), was installed in 1966.

Inside the organ case, there is, for each division, a mini-keyboard used for tuning.

The tonal structure of this instrument is strictly according to the Italian tradition: softness, warmth and clearness of sound; each voice is well characterized in its color; the attack is present at a right degree without being aggressive; the voices of the instrument are well blended together and on the whole, produce a broad sound. The Grand'organo ripieno is according to Serassi's tradition (18th century) while the one in the Positive division is according to Antegnati's tradition (16th and 17th centuries).

Inaugural concerts were given by Massimo Rossi on November 13th, 1966, and by Frederick Swann on November 17th, 1966.

In 2008, the Lévesque-Roussin organbuilding firm carried out a complete cleaning and restoration of the instrument. At the same time, Jacques L'Italien completely revised the voicing while preserving the features inherent to the Italian organ.
